A memorial service for Thomas Gus Orsborn, 79, was held on March 16, at Distinctive Life Cremation and Funeral Services in Plano.
Mr. Orsborn died on March 11, 2024, at his home in Plano. He was born on September 29, 1944, in Greenville, to Lynn Sparks Orsborn and Mary Jean (Nettles) Orsborn.
Mr. Orsborn grew up in Emory and graduated from Rains High School in 1962. He played football and ran track. He joined the Marine Corps and served from 1962 to 1966. He attended East Texas State (1962-64), and the University of Houston (1964-1968). He received a B.A. in Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Arlington in 1975. In 1984, he received an M.S. in Management and Administrative Sciences.
Mr. Orsborn married Carol Gwen Robinson in 1964, in Garland, and they were happily married for 60 years. He worked at several companies during his career in Software Engineering, Management and Marketing. He retired from Hewlett Packard (formerly Compaq) in 2006. He accumulated many promotions, accolades and awards related to his work in the computer industry.
He worked with his sons’ sports teams and boy scout troops. He enjoyed racquetball, live music, watching the Rockets, Mavericks and Cowboys, international cuisine, travel and camping. He was a devoted grandfather who was always willing to go on an adventure with his grandchildren whether down the road or across the country. He enjoyed learning new skills and applying them to projects such as the restoration of a car, laying tile, creating outside patios and building an ultralight airplane.
During his retirement he enjoyed traveling America in the RV with Gwen and his grandchildren.
Mr. Orsborn is survived by his wife of Plano; sons, Gary Thomas Orsborn of Plano, and Bryan Lynn Orsborn and wife Denise (Evans) of Leander; sister, Mary Lynn (Orsborn) Vassar and husband John of Marshall; brother, Joe David Orsborn and wife Debbie of Emory; and grandchildren, Daniel Thomas Orsborn of Charlotte, North Carolina, Matthew Orsborn of Plano, Nathan Evans Orsborn of Leander and Valerie Orsborn of Plano.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Paul Sparks Orsborn of Emory.
