Leroy Potts

1941 – 2023

A celebration of life for Leroy Potts, 82, of Emory, was held on August 8, at Emory Baptist Church. Bro. Richard Piles officiated.

Mr. Potts died on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at his home in Emory, with his children by his side. He was born on July 14, 1941, in Emory, to Walter and Gladys Dougherty Potts.

Mr. Potts began his journey home on the same day that his wife of 60 years, Carolyn Potts, left his side for her heavenly home a year prior. He and Carolyn married on August 4, 1962, in Emory. He attended Emory High School, and just short of his college degree, he and Carolyn established Potts Gas Company in November of 1968. He made his start in the gas business with one gas truck and a phone line that rang at his cousin Henry’s feed store.

He spent many years coaching t-ball, baseball and basketball for his children and attending countless sporting events for his children and grandchildren. He loved to hunt and fish, never missing the annual quail hunting trip to South Texas and the annual fishing trip on the Sabine River.

He is survived by son, Brennan Potts and wife Michele of Emory; daughter, Melanie Potts Baker and husband Joel, of Tyler; brother-in-law, Wayne Melton and wife Jeanette, of Emory; and the seven loves of his life, his grandchildren, Weston Potts and wife Lexie, Cortney Lynn and husband Dan, Collin Eenigenburg, Kennedy Potts, Coleman Baker, Mallory Baker and Griffin Baker; three great-grandchildren, Blakeleigh Potts, Blaire Lynn and William Lynn; and loving caretakers, Millie Crews, Sonia Broils and Marissa Spinks.

Mr. Potts was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Melton Potts; parents, Walter Aaron Potts and Gladys Dougherty Potts; and brother, Walter Lee Potts, Jr.
