Katie Lou (Fischer) McCravey

1929 – 2023

Katie Lou (Fischer) McCravey, 93, died on February 1, 2023, in her apartment in Palestine with family members by her side. She was born on September 30, 1929, in Rains County, to Antone and Jessie Fischer

She was married to Eugene McCravey for 69 years. They ranched in Rains County and raised two daughters. She was passionate about her family and her role as wife, mother and rancher and she was a very engaged grandmother. She was “Memamma” to her granddaughter and “Ganny” to her grandsons.

In her later years, Mrs. McCravey was a resident at Windermere Assisted Living in Palestine. She enjoyed many friendships, was a wiz at playing dominos and participated in all the planned activities. “Ms. Katie” was a darling of the Windermere staff, who appreciated her good humor and attitude of gratitude.

Mrs. McCravey is survived by daughters, Shirley Buford of Tyler and Marian Justiss and husband Steven of Lakeway; granddaughter, Katherine Chaffin; grandsons, Joseph and Daniel Justiss; and five great-grandchildren, Sean and Seth Chaffin, Noam, Hannah and Shoshana Justiss.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers; and one sister.

Mrs. McCravey was laid to rest in a family graveside service in Dunbar Cemetery in Emory, adjacent to her husband and near generations of other family members.

Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home.
