Kirk Truman Thomas

1963 – 2023

Kirk Thomas, age 59, was born on March 25, 1963, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Jay Cee Thomas and Hazel “Jean” Truman Thomas. He passed from this life on January 31, 2023, in Lufkin, Texas.

Kirk was raised in Salt Lake City with a large, loving family. He joined the United States Coast Guard to help further his education. He went on to attain his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice. His lifelong dream was to become a police officer serving the people. He was a servant in every sense of the word and loved every second of it. He initially began his career with the North Salt Lake Police Department and later joined the Dallas Police Department on July 5, 1989. He served with pride and honor until his retirement on July 27, 2016. He retired as a Sergeant and had many, many officers that he loved like family. The Dallas Police Department was family to Kirk and Cindy.

Kirk and Cindy married July 25, 2009 in Nacogdoches, Texas and began their marriage journey which lasted until his death. They had many adventures and made a lifetime of memories traveling all over the United States in their RV. In 2017, they purchased a small farm in Grapeland where Kirk truly learned to be a “country boy.” He loved being outside with nature and having a garden. They had a wonderful and very blessed life together.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy of Grapeland, sons, Jonathan Devers of Pueblo Colorado, and Joshua Devers and wife Natascha; granddaughters, Cori Devers and Anastascia Lucius of Denton, Texas; his mother, Jean Thomas; brothers, Kevin Thomas and wife Mary, Kyle Thomas and wife Andrea all of Salt Lake, Kelly Thomas and wife Malinda of Lacey Washington; and Kayla Doud and husband John of Salt Lake; ten nieces and nephews and three great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by several aunts and cousins and his Dallas Police Family.

He is preceded in death by his father, Jay Cee Thomas; his grandparents; uncle, Jimmy; and his beloved fur babies, Copper Dog and Baby Kitty.

The viewing and memorial service were held on February 4, 2023, at Wilson Orwosky Funeral Home in Emory, Texas, and he was laid to rest at the Salt Lake City Cemetery on Wednesday February 8, 2023.
