Funeral services for Dolores Ann Altom, 85, of Emory, will be held on Friday, March 3, at 11:00 a.m., at Wilson Orwosky Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Smyrna Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Ben Altom, Jeana Altom, Jacob Altom, Michael Altom, Clay Altom and Audrey Altom.
Mrs. Altom died on February 19, 2023, in Plano, surrounded by family. She was born on August 15, 1937, in Emory, to C.B. and Alean Meyer. She graduated from high school in Irving and met and married James David Altom They raised three sons and moved more than twenty times, living in four states and Kuwait. They loved to travel the U.S. and Europe. They were married for 66 years, until James’ passing.
She enjoyed music, especially live performances, and she was a marathon shopper. Her whistling tune followed wherever she went. She had a servant’s nature and loved visitors, long phone calls and conversing with everyone she met. She was always the first to care for others and the last to sit at the table for one of her excellent home-cooked meals. Her greatest joy was being a mother, nanny and aunt D.
Mrs. Altom is survived by sons, Mike Altom, and Tim Altom and wife Barbara of Irving; daughter-in-law, Cathy Altom of McKinney; grandchildren, Ben and Mary Altom, Jacob and Sara Altom, Michael and Joy Altom, Clay Altom, Jeana Altom and Audrey Altom; great-grandchildren, Jaxon Altom, Lily Altom, Owen Altom and Connor Longley; brother, John and wife Rita Meyer; sister, Linda Webb; brother-in-law, Harlan Wilhelm; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; son, Patrick Altom; and grandson, Layne Pugh.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home in Emory.
A visitation will be held at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home on Friday morning, March 3, at 10:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service.
