1940 – 2023

Mrs. Braziel died on February 20, 2023, at UT Health Tyler. She was born on February 14, 1940, in Gilmer, to Bascom and Mildred Perkins. She grew up in Mt. Pleasant, where she enjoyed band, her studies, and being with her sister Gail.

She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1958 as valedictorian and attended East Texas State University in Commerce (now Texas A&M University-Commerce) where she graduated with top honors. She decided to follow in her father’s footsteps and become an attorney. She attended the University of Texas School of Law, and was one of only four females enrolled in the school. She graduated in 1965 with the highest honors. Upon graduation, she returned to Mt. Pleasant to form Perkins & Perkins Law Firm with her father. She was the first female attorney in Titus County. Her cases would range from complicated land deeds to adoptions, to even being an advocate for the child. She also co-owned with her mother Merle Norman Cosmetics.

On June 3, 1970, she married LM “Bunker” Braziel, whom she had met while attending law school. They made their home in Emory. On March 21, 1974, they were blessed with their only child, Kristi Ann Braziel.

While living in Emory, she had many friends, and helped people of Rains County as an attorney. She served on the Rains County Child Welfare Board and Pilot Club of Mt. Pleasant. She was a faithful member of the Emory church of Christ and taught children’s Bible classes.

Mrs. Braziel is survived by her daughter, Kristi Ann Braziel Williams and husband Landon; grandsons, MacGregor London Lee Williams and Landon McCallon Kolt Williams; brother-in-law, John Robert Braziel and wife Kay; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; grandson, Vesuvius Lee Williams, brother-in-law, Dan Richardson; and sister, Gail Richardson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mission Printing.
