A celebration of life service for Vaunita Faye Blanton, 77, of Emory, will be held on Friday, February 17, at Elm Baptist Church.
Mrs. Blanton died on February 10, 2023. She was born in Sulphur Springs, on June 18, 1945, to Romie and Lorene Hennen. She attended Rains High School where she played basketball and earned All-District Honors.
She retired after a long career in the purchasing department at E-Systems, but decided retirement wasn’t for her, and went to work for Sierra Nevada in the same capacity until her second retirement.
She loved basketball so much that she rarely missed one of her children or grandchildren’s games. She loved to tell people that she had been a cheerleader and she got to watch her daughters and granddaughters cheer for RHS too, boasting the family had three generations of Wildcat cheerleaders.
She enjoyed volunteering for the Rains County Fair, especially with the 4-H program when her children were young and continued to volunteer for many years afterward as her grandchildren became active participants in the livestock show and pageants.
She is survived by her daughter, Denita Young and husband Scott; son, P. R. Adams and wife Molly; grandchildren, Brooke Dockery and husband Dustin, Taylor Allen and husband Garrett, Heagen Steed, Jace Lowery, Hank, Haiden, Graysen, and Graham Adams; and great-grandchildren, Berkleigh and Wesson Dockery.
Mrs. Blanton was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald; daughter, Carmen; and son-in-law, Shannon Cooke.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dougherty Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home.
