Funeral services for Sherry Burns, 74, were held on August 23, at Wilson-Orwosky Chapel, with Steve Bishop officiating. Interment followed at Dunbar Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Josh Costley, Adrian Pena, Sean Terry, Bentley Davis, Houston Harrigan and Harley Harrinan.
Mrs. Burns died on August 19, 2025. She was born on July 29, 1951, to Calvin and Annie Wade Johnson, in Rains County.
She was raised in Emory, and was a proud member of the Rains High School class of 1969 and was a member of the Rains Rainettes. She enjoyed competing in chili cook-offs, and she found joy in painting landscapes.
Her family was her pride and joy and she dedicated herself to the upbringing and happiness of her children. Her world truly revolved around her children and grandchildren. She had a beautiful relationship with James Burns. They were together for 29 years and married for 24.
Mrs. Burns is survived by her husband; her mother; children, Daren Davis and Carrie, Michelle Burns and Don, Coy Terry and Carmen, Stacy Gilbreath and Jerry, Valerie Barnes, Donna Busby, Tonya Scroggins, and Michael Burns and Keara; 20 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father.
