A memorial service for Orvis Ray Kerr, 93, will be held on Sunday, January 19, at 2:00 p.m. at Grove Hills Funeral Home in Dallas.
Mr. Kerr died peacefully with loved ones at his side on December 21, 2019, at the Trinity Health and Rehab Center in Winnsboro, after issues with failing health. He was born on January 31, 1926, to Maggie Burns and Henry Kerr in Point. His great-grandmother, Mary Jane Rains, was the niece of Rains County founder Emory Rains.
Mr. Kerr was a WWII veteran and served proudly in the Navy and Merchant Marines. He married Opal Seratte of Paul’s Valley, Okla., on March 16, 1963.
Mr. Kerr is survived by his sister, Helen Rodden and husband Ray; sons, Mikell Kerr and wife Patricia, Tommy Robinette, David Flores and wife Nina, and Sam Flores and wife Tonia; daughters, Betty Williamson, and Carleen Nichols and husband Rick; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years; parents; sister, Virginia White; and brother, Jerrel Kerr.
