Funeral services for Linda Burks, 77, of West Tawakoni, were held on August 30, at Wilson Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel in Emory with Tim Swiney officiating. Interment followed at Able Spring Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Justin Sharp, Eric Wood, Christopher “Critter” Wood, Kameron Burks, Dylan Vogt and Chris Asbury. Brett Burks and Stephen Sharp served as honorable pallbearers.
Mrs. Burks died peacefully on August 27, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born on August 8, 1947, in Grapevine, to Ollie and Willie Gray. She married Richard Burks Sr. on September 25, 1964. They spent sixty wonderful years building a life together and had six children.
She was an avid music lover and energetic dancer. She was a pro at card games, particularly Skip-Bo. She was a hardworking laundry aid at a nursing home and taught Sunday school at her church, Rock Hill Pentecostal. She had a strong faith that anchored her and her love for the Lord was evident in the way she cared for others.
Mrs. Burks is survived by her husband, Richard Burks Sr. of West Tawakoni; daughters, Eva Sharp and husband Perry of Point, Dorothy Wilson and husband Bobby Wilson of Emory, Judy Wood and husband Chad of West Tawakoni, and Wanda Millsap of Paris; sons, Richard Burks Jr. and wife Donna Burks of Wichita, Kansas, and Kenneth Burks and wife Tina of Wylie; eighteen grandchildren; and twenty-seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Dwayne Gray, Bobby Gray and Herbert Gene Gray; sister, Eva Jordan; in laws, Oren and Willie Burks, Charles Burks, Bobby Burks and Raymond Canada; and great-grandson Joseph Hulsey.
