Funeral services for Larry Don Hooten, 87, were held on June 15, at Point Church of Christ. Interment followed at Lynch Cemetery in East Tawakoni.
Mr. Hooten died on June 12, 2026, at Christus Hospital in Sulphur Springs. He was born on December 20, 1939, in Lone Oak, to Enos Franklin Hooten and Jessie Lee Parker Hooten.
Mr. Hooten graduated from Point High School in Point, in 1958, and furthered his education with an agricultural teaching certificate from East Texas State University. He served in the US Army from 1962 to 1964. His athletic ability remains a proud chapter in his life. He holds the record as the highest-scoring basketball player with an astounding 144 points over three games in the Emory Lions Club Basketball tournament. He also played basketball at Paris Jr. College.
His career was deeply rooted in family and hard work. He and his brother owned Hooten’s Automatic Transmission in Richardson. Yet, no matter where life took him, his heart belonged to the land. Plowing and shredding became more than chores—they were a passion that he embraced fully. Just two months before his passing, he spent eight hours on the tractor. He enjoyed fishing.
His proudest accomplishments were centered on God, family and church.
