Graveside services for Johnny Wayne Melton, Sr. 72, of Emory, were held on July 25, 2023, at Emory City Cemetery.
Mr. Melton died on July 22, 2023, at home, after battling cancer. He was born on June 17, 1951, in Mineola, in a car on the way to the hospital, to E. W. (Doc) Melton and Theresa Whitaker Melton of Mineola. He married Sue Elizabeth Nipp Melton on March 29, 1973. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in March. They had son, Johnny Wayne Melton in 1976, and grandson, Daniel in 2005.
He enjoyed providing for and loving his family. He was skilled at helping individuals with advice, teaching, and direction, and would provide a story or joke to lift your spirit. He was known for giving the best gag gifts.
Mr. Melton is survived his wife of Emory; son, Johnny Wayne Melton, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Emory; grandson, Daniel Melton of Emory; and countless loving family and friends.
He was preceded by his parents; brothers, E. W., Troy, Walter, Jim and David Melton; sisters, Ellie Mae Gaston, Skeet Horton and Joe Green.
