Ernest Warren

1935 – 2021

A graveside service for Ernest Warren, 85, will be held on March 27 at Hooker Cemetery in Lone Oak.

Mr. Warren died peacefully on March 8, 2021, with his family by his side. He was born on May 6, 1935, in Guthrie to Joe D. Scott and Tommie Dee Puckett. At the age of two, and after the death of his mother, he was adopted by his Aunt Bill and Willie Warren.

He was a basketball star at Greenville High School. He also met the love of his life, Rebecca Lynn George, while attending there. They were married at First Christian Church of Greenville on December 27, 1955.

Mr. Warren was employed with Robinhood Flour, followed by a position with Hensons. After graduating from East Texas State University with a bachelor’s degree, he went to work for Vanity Fair for 35 years, finishing his master’s program in Business Development while there. He won many awards for outstanding salesperson. 

In 1985, he and his wife moved to Lone Oakwhere they resided for 36 years. He enjoyed his John Deere tractor, riding lawnmower, raising cattle and anything farming with his buddies. He also had a huge love of dogs, taking in many strays.

He and his wife were members of the First Christian Church of Lone Oak for 30 years. There he served as an elder and chairman of the board.

He also served in the US Army for eight years and was promoted to sergeant. He was an avid member of the NRA and contributor to all divisions of law enforcement.

Mr. Warren is survived by his wife; daughter, Elaine Harrington and husband Patrick of Carrollton; son, David Warren and wife Laura of Alto, N.M.; sister, Betty Hinson and husband Bryant of Waco; sister, Bobby Crank and husband Johnny of Austin; four grandchildren, Billie, Debbie, Tyler and Ashlee; great-grandchild, Nevaeh; daughter-in-law, Ruth Warren; and numerous other relatives, brothers and sisters in Christ, and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joe D. Scott and wife Liz; mother; adoptive parents; and sister, Peggy Davis.
