Charlotte Ann Turner

1935 – 2023

Funeral services for Charlotte Ann Walker Turner, 87, of Point, were held on January 20, at Smyrna Union Church in Emory. Interment followed in Smyrna Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were her nephews, Roger Venable, Gene Walker, Jesse Walker, Jason Walker, Randy Walker, Sidney Walker, Jason Dale and grandson, Robert Walls.

Mrs. Turner died on January 17, 2023, at Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville. She was born on January 29, 1935, to Jesse George Walker Sr. and wife Mary, in Brashear.

Mrs. Turner graduated from Sulphur Springs High School and continued her education at East Texas State Teachers College, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree. She continued her education by earning her Master of Education from East Texas State University. She also earned a Master’s Degree in religious education from Southwestern Theological Seminary. She twice served as a summer missionary for the home mission to California, New Mexico and New Orleans. She served as an Invincible for Texas Baptist Convention, holding vacation Bible schools in Texas. She was the secretary and youth director at First Baptist Church in Crosbyton.

She taught elementary school at Gladewater, Mesquite and Yantis until her retirement.

In 1970, she married John Turner and became a pastor’s wife at Smyrna, Chapel Hill Baptist, Free Bridge Road Baptist and Free Bridge Baptist.

Mrs. Turner is survived by two stepchildren, Pam Gassett and husband Kevin of Point and Johnnie Wayne Turner of Minn.; brother, Sherrell Walker and wife Peggy of Gilmer; and sister-in-law, Edna Bell Walker of Springfield, Mo.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2016; brother, J.G. Walker Jr. and wife Mary; sisters, Tirzah Petty and husband Mike and Lavelle Venable and husband Cameron; nephews, Jimmy Venable and Larry Venable; and grandson, Blake Gassett.
