Bill Beasley

1933 – 2022

Funeral services for Bill Beasley, 89, of Sulphur Springs, were held on June 8, 2022, at Emory Baptist Church. Interment followed at South Liberty Cemetery in Sulphur Springs. 

Mr. Beasley died on June 5, 2022, in Sulphur Springs. He was born on March 24, 1933, to Henry Lee Beasley and Bessie Hipp in Cumby.

He served in the USMC from January 16, 1951 to January 7, 1954, and in the USMCR from December 1, 1954 to December 1, 1957. He served in Korea from March until November of 1953. He was present when the peace treaty was signed and witnessed the exchange of prisoners-of-war at Panmunjon, Korea. He received the Good Conduct medal, Korean Service medal W2, National Defense medal, and United Nations Service medal. While in the reserves, he was promoted to Staff Sergeant.

When he returned home, he enrolled in college at Commerce. Bill graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in January 1957. He met Carolyn Speed in the summer of 1956 and they married in 1957 in Cumby. He went on to earn his Masters Degree and Counseling Certificate. His teaching career lasted 27 years of which the last 14 years were spent as a counselor in the Rains ISD. He later had a full career as a social worker for home health and hospice. He loved to travel and traveled to all 50 states and out of the USA.

Mr. Beasley is survived by his wife; sons, Ricky Beasley and wife Anita, Craig Beasley and wife Kim; 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Danny Beasley; and eight brothers and sisters.
