Funeral services for Jerry Wayne Adcock, 83, will be held on November 12, at 10:00 a.m., at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home in Dallas. Interment will follow at Dallas Forth Worth National Cemetery.
Mr. Adcock died on Monday, October 25, 2021, at his home in Plano. He was born on May 15, 1938, in Dardanelle, Arkansas, to Jesse and Grace (McBride) Adcock.
He was a member of the Dardanelle High School Class of 1956 and attended Arkansas Tech University where he was a member of the Army ROTC program and served as an Army National Guard reservist.
He married Emma Josephine Fulton in 1959 and was commissioned into the US Army in 1960. They had three children before he was called to serve two tours in Vietnam (1966-67 and 1968-69). He was awarded numerous honors for his service as a pilot in Vietnam including the Distinguish Flying Cross, two Bronze Stars, and 37 Air Medals.
In 1978, Mr. Adcock did a tour in Iran as a US Military Advisor. In 1979, at the height of the Iranian Revolution, his duties quickly transitioned to overseeing the evacuation of Americans. In June of 1979, he was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal as a result of his extraordinary contributions to the evacuation of over 12,000 American civilians without a single major incident or injury.
Upon his retirement in 1983, he was awarded the Legion of Merit Medal for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements.
After that, Mr. Adcock served as a Junior ROTC instructor at Richland High School while living in Southlake until his second retirement in 1999 when they moved to their beautiful home on Lake Fork. They enjoyed 20 years in the Lake Fork community, where he was a member of the North East Texas Choral Society and the Hopkins County Military Coalition.
He was one of the founders of the Lake Fork Golf Course Men’s Golf Association. They were faithful members of Lake Fork Baptist Church until moving to Plano in 2018. His love of country was only surpassed by his love and dedication to his family. He was never happier than when he was with his grandchildren on the golf course or playing a game of cards.
He is survived by three children; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years; his parents; and siblings.
A visitation will be held on November 11, from 6:00-8:00 p.m, at the funeral home.
