Services for Vickie Pierce, 79, of Emory will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Pierce died on October 14, 2026. She was born on January 28, 1947, in Terre Haute, Indiana, to Burford and Ruth Gilbert.
She moved to Rains County in 1991 with her husband, Jerry Pierce, and made it their home. They spent 55 wonderful years together and built a life centered on family, friendship, and simple joys.
She lived a life marked by kindness, devotion, and a genuine love for others. To so many, she was simply “Nana,” a name that reflected the warmth, comfort, and affection she shared so freely.
Education and teaching were important parts of her life. She attended Indiana State University and went on to become a teacher at Rains ISD, where she taught reading for 25 years.
Mrs. Pierce loved reading and enjoyed going out with her friends. She loved fishing with her family at White River and was content reading a book between casts. Those moments captured so much of who she was: thoughtful, joyful, and happiest when surrounded by the people she loved.
Nothing meant more to her than her children and grandchildren. They were her proudest accomplishment and the greatest joy of her life. She loved watching her grandsons play baseball, cheering them on with pride and love. She was especially proud of her granddaughter and cherished watching her grow into an amazing young woman and mother.
Mrs. Pierce will be remembered for the love she gave, the lives she touched as a teacher, and the gentle, caring spirit that made others feel seen and valued. Her memory will live on in the classroom lessons she taught, in family fishing trips and adventures, and in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her son, Clayton Pierce and Jolee; daughter-in-law, Dori Pierce; grandchildren, Joslyn Varela and Alex, Gavin Pierce, and Carson Pierce; and great-grandson, Atlas Varela.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and son, Jason Pierce.
