The building that served the community of Sand Flat as a gathering place and even distribution center for US government surplus foods was the dream of J.W. Cullors. He and his wife came to the Sand Flat community about 1919 from Hopkins County in order for him to assume the role as schoolteacher, superintendent and Sunday school teacher.
