Stephen Shane Gowin, was born on January 26, 1967, in Mineola, TX., to Pryor and Kathryn Gowin, and he passed away on December 9, 2023, in Franklin, IN. He was a devoted husband, loving father, doting grandfather, and a true patriot.

Shane’s life was filled with beautiful memories and cherished moments. In Germany, he crossed paths with the love of his life, Carol Ann Kerr, and they sealed their bond in holy matrimony in Emory, Tex. For over three decades, Shane and his beloved wife embarked on countless adventures across Europe, creating timeless memories together. One of their most unforgettable experiences was dining atop the magnificent Eiffel Tower in Paris and traveling from country to country and getting to know different cultures. From their bond blossomed four incredible children who brought immeasurable joy into Shane’s life. As time went on and their family continued to grow, six grandchildren added an extra sparkle to his eyes.

Not only was Shane a dedicated family man but he also had a passion for the Dallas Cowboys. He avidly followed their games and cheered with unwavering support for his beloved team.

After graduating from Rains High School, he felt that joining the military was a calling and with that calling he became a military man. His commitment to serving his country led him to join the Army at the tender age of 17. With commendable dedication and perseverance, he bravely served in the military for over 30 years before retiring as a Sergeant First Class in 2016. Throughout his remarkable career, Shane was deployed at least seven times and faithfully carried out his duties with true distinction. The love he possessed for his nation resonated deeply within him and influenced all facets of his life.

Above all else, Shane adored his family more than words can express. His unconditional love poured forth unceasingly for them throughout his life. Shane’s nurturing spirit, coupled with his natural leadership qualities, guided his family through life’s triumphs and challenges.

As a God fearing, serviceman and a family man, Shane touched the lives of all those fortunate enough to have known him. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and an individual who epitomized patriotism as his comrades remember him as one of the best leaders. His legacy of love and commitment will forever inspire those who had the privilege to journey alongside him.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Ann Gowin, children, Joel and wife Amber, Jessica and husband Cameron, Shaina, Taylor and wife Destiny; grandchildren. Trinity, Killian, Lucas, Lily, Mila and Ares; brother, Greg Gowin, uncle, David who inspired his military career; and other aunts and uncles who loved him dearly.
