A memorial service for Ronald Edward Mays, 79, will be held on Saturday, February 24, at 10:00 a.m., at Eastridge Church of Christ, 670 N. Stodghill Rd., Rockwall, TX 75087.
Mr. Mays died on January 19, 2024. He was born on December 31, 1944, in Emory, to Edward and Oleta Mays. He graduated from Rains High School Class of 1963, where he played many sports. He played football and baseball at Tarleton State University and received his Masters degree from Texas A&M Commerce. He was a proud member of the United States Army and served in Vietnam.
Mr. Mays married Pamela Peeples on August 26, 1967, and they were married 47 years before her death in 2015. He was a coach and they made several moves from Athens to Alpine, but ended in Rockwall. He coached around the DFW area and ended his career at Garland High School.
They loved to travel and spend time with their grandchildren, attending any events they had. He was active in his church and loved to play golf.
Mr. Mays is survived by his children, Shelley Trinidad and husband John; Ashley Mays and Matt Mays; grandchildren, Ryland and Cruz Trinidad and Dayne and Deveraux Johnson; sisters, Laverne Graham and Cornelia Bowles; brother, Gary Mays; sister-in-law, Patricia Adcock and husband Gayle; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; daughter, Julie Amanda Mays; and brothers, Lillard and Gregory Mays.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society or the Wounded Warrior Project.
