Robert Windell Hodge

1927 – 2023

Graveside services for Robert Windell Hodge, 95, were held on February 4, 2023, at Lone Star Cemetery in Point. Jeff Jackson officiated.

Mr. Hodge died in hospice care on February 1, 2023. He was born on November 26, 1927, in Wills Point, to Jesse and Lewis Hodge. 

He served our nation in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1949, where he spent time in Panama. He was in the reserves until after flight school when he decided to re-enlist in the air force, stationed at Clark Field in the Philippians. He received his pilot’s license and served until September 1952.

He married Dixie Jean Armstrong of Shawnee, Okla., on May 8, 1963, in Dallas. They lived in Mesquite with family, until they later moved to East Tawakoni, built their home and raised their family. 

Mr. Hodge retired when he was 62 and he and his wife spent many years of their retirement days on the beaches of South Texas.

Nothing gave him more joy than the birth of his only grandchild, Jared Allen Byrd, in 2001. 

Mr. Hodge is survived by his daughter, Wendy Diane Byrd and husband Mark of Emory; son, James Robert Hodge of East Tawakoni; grandson, Jared Byrd of Crocker, Missouri; brothers, Lon Hodge and wife Janette of Wylie, and Jim Hodge and wife Nadine of Forney; sister, Patricia Hughes and husband Randy of Magnolia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Dixie; brothers, Luke Hodge, A.B. Hodge, J.B. Hodge, Bill Hodge, Homer Hodge; and sisters, Katherine (Sis) Ashby, Sue Bishop and Annette Clemmons.
