A graveside service for Linda Sue Thurman Moody, 81, was held on June 14, at Willow Springs Cemetery, near Emory.
Mrs. Moody died on June 11, 2022, at East Texas Hospice Center in Tyler. She was born on November 25, 1940, in Delta County to Finis Oleta James Thurman and Robert Orval Thurman.
She attended school in Pecan Gap and after graduating from Cooper High School in 1959, she moved to Dallas where she began a long work career. She later moved to Emory where she worked at the Rains County Appraisal District, at Rains County Abstract and in family-owned businesses. She was a member of Emory United Methodist Church where she taught children’s Sunday school classes. She also served for two years on the Rains County Child Welfare Board.
In 1982 Mrs. Moody moved to Tyler where she volunteered at Marvin Methodist Church, leading divorce workshops. She also worked as a counselor for alcohol and drug abuse programs and once was chosen as Volunteer of the Year for Smith County. She was a strong supporter of the Salvation Army. She was a member of the American Association of Professional Landmen and served as the first female president of East Texas Association of Petroleum Landmen.
Mrs. Moody considered her most important and rewarding job was being a mother. She was totally devoted to her son.
She is survived by her son Ken Moody and Betsey Molnar of Emory; sisters-in-law Karen Thurman and Judy Moody; nephews and families, Jarrod, Wendy, Kyle and Katie Thurman of Emory and Michael and Vinnie Ho Thurman of Lewisville; and Kenneth Moody, Ken’s father.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Mickey Thurman; and brother-in-law, James Moody.
In lieu of flowers Linda requested donations be made to Emory United Methodist Church, 456 N Texas St, Emory, TX 75440.
Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home in Emory.
