John Edward Hines

An intimate family funeral service was held for “Sonny” John Edward Hines, 83, of Emory on March 21 at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Wayne Wolfe officiated.
Interment followed in Clifton Cemetery.
Mr. Hines died on March 17, 2020. He was born on August 26, 1936, in Rains County to Robert S. and Freda L. Blanton Hines. After graduation, he worked many years as a specialty heli-arc welder for food and beverage plants. He married Mildred Hoppe in Dallas on December 23, 1974. In 2001, he retired and moved back to the old home place in the Daugherty community. He enjoyed planting a garden and sharing the fresh produce with family and neighbors.
He was a Christian, a member of Daugherty Baptist Church, and he loved the Lord and His ways. He loved to sing his praises and his favorite hymn was “Going Home.” He will be remembered as a good and generous man.
Mr. Hines is survived by his wife of Emory; sisters, Barbara Jaggers of Emory, and Sue Strebeck and husband Bobby of Arlington; sister-in-law, Flora Hines of Emory; daughters, Karen Lynne Orange of Greenville and Sheila Wright of Lancaster; sons, Edward Lee Hines of Emory, Johnny Hines Jr. and wife Jennifer of Point, and Rusty Lee Hines of Point; step-children, Angie Foster of Topeka, Kan., Debbie Priest and husband Dan of Topeka, Kan., Patti Moore of Sislbee, Janie Sauer and husband Roger of Sabetha, Kan., Rob Skoch and wife Susan of Garland, and Rick Skoch and wife Karen of Garland; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Junior Hines.
