James Stanley McAree

1942 – 2026

James Stanley McAree, 84, was laid to rest on July 17 in Colony Cemetery after a small service attended by close friends and family.

Mr. McAree died peacefully at his home in Alba, surrounded by his family on July 15, 2026. He was born on June 13, 1942, in Alba, to Johnnie and Thelma Panter McAree. 

He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and later retired from Raytheon in Greenville, where he served as a security guard for 34 years. 

He was married to Elaine Davis McAree for 53 years and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He found joy in fishing, tending to his land and cattle, and spending time with family and friends. Known throughout the community for his strong work ethic, friendly nature, and caring spirit, he touched the lives of many. 

Mr. McAree is survived by sons, Clint McAree and wife Barbara, and Brett McAree and wife Melissa; daughter, Mandy O’Donnell and husband Pat; grandchildren, John McAree and wife Misty, Shay McAree, Rylan Lester and Rhett Lester; great-grandchildren, Madilynn McAree and Jase McAree; and brother, Gary McAree and wife Dolores. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and sister, Johnnye Easley.
