Connie Jo Bland

1950 – 2024

Connie Jo Bland, 74, of Alba, died on October 15, 2024, at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler. She was born August 10, 1950, to James R. and Joan Conrod in Winfield, Kan.

Mrs. Bland graduated in 1968, from Winfield High School where she was a leader in academics, school and social activities. In 1972, she graduated from Pittsburg State University with a degree in Elementary Education. She married John C Bland in 1971.

Her husband’s career in construction management resulted in many moves and she adopted the motto “Bloom Where You Are Planted.” This motto served her well as she met new people, made new friends, got involved in civic groups and volunteering in the many places where they lived, enjoying residences in Wichita; Atlanta, Ga.; Orange County, Calif.; and Dallas, Texas. In 2009, John and Connie retired to Lake Fork.

Mrs. Bland’s lasting friendships spanned the country. She loved her family, friends, communities and pets. She made the best of every situation and maintained a positive attitude in the face of serious challenges.

Mrs. Bland is survived by sisters, Becky Jack and Linda Groth of Winfield, Karen Metz of Prairie Village, Kan.; brother, David Conrod (Amy) of Marietta, Ga.; and much-loved cousins, nieces and nephews and their children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; and her parents.

A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later time.
