Carolyn June Potts

1942 – 2022

A Celebration of Life service for Carolyn June Potts, 80, of Emory, was held on August 4, at Emory Baptist Church. Brother Richard Piles officiated.

Mrs. Potts died on August 1, 2022, at home in Emory, surrounded by her family and loving caretakers. She was born on February 2, 1942, in Greenville, to George and Faye Varnon Melton. She married Leroy Potts on August 4, 1962, and they were married for 60 years.

Mrs. Potts taught school for 36 years, with the majority of those years spent at Rains Elementary School in Emory. Along with teaching school, she and Leroy established Potts Gas Company in 1968. Her longest devotion was to her church, Emory Baptist Church, where she served as pianist and organist for 65 years. Mrs. Potts touched many lives in Emory, teaching multiple generations. Her faith was apparent in all she did.

Mrs. Potts is survived by her husband; son, Brennan Potts and wife Michele; daughter, Melanie Potts Baker and husband Joel, of Tyler; brother, Wayne Melton and wife Jeanette; and the seven loves of her life, her grandchildren, Weston Potts and wife Lexie, Cortney Lynn and husband Dan, Collin Eenigenburg, Kennedy Potts, Coleman Baker, Mallory Baker and Griffin Baker; two great-grandchildren, Blakeleigh Potts and Blaire Lynn; and for the last few years, her loving caretakers, Millie Crews and Sonia Broils, who loved and cared for her as family.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
