Funeral services for Benny Hanks, 87, will be held on September 28, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home in Emory. Interment will follow in Willow Springs Cemetery located at FM 3274 at CR 2300.
Mr. Hanks died on September 23, 2023, in Mineola. He was born on April 6, 1936, in Bonita.
Mr. Hanks had a 27-year career as a truck driver. He was an owner of Farmers Mutual before playing a pivotal role in the establishment of the Go Bus service in Emory. He served as the first driver of the bus that connected Emory’s residents with essential services and opportunities.
He participated in various community organizations and supported causes close to his heart. He was a member of the Lions Club and took great pleasure in cooking for the Whispering Oaks Fire Department cookouts. He enjoyed the Cotton Pickin’ Theatre in Point, where he had a membership and he also belonged to the Lake Country Classic Car Club.
Mr. Hanks is survived by his children, Curtis Earl Hanks, Kephen Ray Hanks and Jan Rena Heitzman; grandchildren, Maranda Jill Opry, Chelby Taylor Hanks, Brooke Rena Payne and Chet Alexander Page; great-grandchildren, Ian Opry, Vincent Opry and Willow Payne; and sister, Edna May Brown.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home.
