Thurman Dale Simmons

1933 – 2026

Funeral services for Thurman Dale Simmons, 93, were held on June 29, at Wilson – Orwosky Funeral Home. Interment followed at Lynch Cemetery. 

Mr. Simmons died at his home in Alba, on June 16, 2026. He was born on March 29, 1933, in Honey Grove. 

Mr. Simmons served in the Texas Army National Guard from 1956 to 1962. Following his military service, he worked for many years for the City of Dallas, where he retired as a Lead Man.

In 1953, he married Virginia Taber. Together they built a family and shared many years of love, devotion, and treasured memories.

Mr. Simmons enjoyed fishing, drinking a cold beer, and especially playing dominoes—particularly the game of 42. He had a wonderful sense of humor, loved to tell stories, and never met a stranger. Music was one of his greatest joys. He loved singing “Hey, Good Lookin” and especially “You Are My Sunshine.”

Mr. Simmons is survived by sons, Kenneth Simmons and wife Debbie, Bobby Simmons, and Danny Simmons; daughter, Laura Mares; sister, Helen Sanders and husband William; 16 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, 32 great-great-grandchildren, four great-great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents, Logan Simmons and Susanna Perkins; brother, Larry Butler; son, Roger Dale Simmons; daughter-in-law, Patricia Simmons; and great-grandchildren, John, Logan, Steven, Tabitha and Richie.
