A funeral service for Willie George Mornes Sr., 88, of Emory, was held on February 15 at Prairie Grove Baptist Church in Emory.
Mr. Mornes Sr. died on February 7, 2025, at his home in Emory. He was born on April 2, 1936, in Malone, Texas, to George and Irene Driver Mornes. He was the oldest of eight children.
Mr. Mornes Sr. accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age and preached his first sermon around the age of 18. He married Minnie Lee Brown on March 27, 1954, and they were married until her death on August 8, 1959. They had four children.
Mr. Mornes Sr. married Willene Robinson on July 3, 1963, and they had two children. Although their marriage ended, they remained friends.
He was a skilled carpenter and had a passion for construction jobs. He was known for his famous concrete work. He had a deep appreciation for classic cars, land and investments. He built his home, restored cars and enjoyed traveling. He worked his entire life to provide for his family.
Mr. Mornes Sr. is survived by his children, Leonard Charles Mornes, Janice Marie Mornes Silmon, Stephanie Mornes Thomas (Andrew), and Willie George Mornes, Jr.; grandchildren, Taymisha Kelley Gutlery (Ronald), Chelsea Silmon Pearce, Bobbie Silmon Carrington(Vincent), Kandace Walter, Kimberlee Walter, Kenneth Walter, Jr., and Krystal Thomas; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Doris Lashunne Mornes Brown and Deloris Lyvonne Mornes Walter; brothers, Edward Lee Mornes, Michael Davis Mornes, Herman Mornes, and Joe Lynn Driver; and sisters, Lottie Mae Mornes Dixon, Jo Helen Mornes Brown and Barbarene Mornes.
