William “Paul” McMerrell

1953 – 2020

William “Paul” McMerrell, of Emory, passed away on November 15, 2020, in Greenville. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at Emory Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Rolen and Rev. Mike Moss officiating. Burial will be in Emory City Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 17, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Emory Baptist Church. Coker-Mathews Funeral Home in Greenville, Texas, is charge of arrangements. The family is requesting that everyone in attendance wears masks and follows Standard Covid Precautions.

Paul was born March 29, 1953, in Dallas, Texas, to Charles McMerrell and Joyce Melton Buckholt. He married Deb Kearney on October 11, 1974, in Emory, Texas. He worked for Verizon, Contel and GTE for 36-1⁄2 years and was the Associate Pastor of Bull Creek Cowboy Church for approximately 8 years. He was a member of Believers’ Baptist Church in Emory. As a minister, Paul performed many weddings and funerals for family and friends and was always available when needed. He enjoyed life, doing woodworking in his shop, gardening, working on their farm with his cows and horse, “Kit.” He loved his family and had lots of good times just sitting around in the yard watching the kids and grandkids making memories.

He is survived by his wife, Deb McMerrell of Emory; son, Casey McMerrell; daughter, Haylea Stracener and husband, Ryan; mother, Joyce Buckholt; grandchildren, Madison, Shaylee, Jadyn and Rowdy.

He was preceded in death by his, son, Lucas McMerrell, father, Charles McMerrell, stepfather, Bennie Buckholt and stepmother, Eva McMerrell.

Pallbearers will be Brad Chastain, Kade Wallace, Kody Wallace, Keith Wallace, Josh Hitchcock and Chan Peters.
