Funeral services for Ronnie McCurry, “Grandpa,” 85, of Mesquite, will be held on Friday, October 14, at 2:00 p.m., at Lone Oak Methodist Church. Pastor Beth Ensor will officiate.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ricky Hernandez, Kent Byrd, Gary Dooley, Jim Farrow, David Lorton and Terry Donaldson. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Young and Buddy Wayne. Interment will follow at Prairie Valley Cemetery.
Mr. McCurry died on October 10, 2022, at his residence. He was born October 1, 1937, in Murphy, Oklahoma, to Jewell and Velma Dotson McCurry.
He was raised in Murphy, Oklahoma, and lived in Mesquite for 51 years, and in Lone Oak for the last 21 years. He served in the US Navy and was a member of Lone Oak Methodist Church. Mr. McCurry retired as an installer for Western Union Telegraph. He enjoyed squirrel hunting and deer hunting. To his grandkids, he was known as a “dentist” and “barber” and of course, as Grandpa. He could fix anything and especially enjoyed working on his rent houses.
Mr. McCurry is survived by his son, Michael Gene McCurry and wife Donna Gail of Mesquite; daughter, Sandra Gail McCurry of Lone Oak; three grandchildren, Colton McCurry and wife Keri, Megan Cook and husband Tyler, and Hannah Lorton; three great-grandchildren, Jordan McCurry, Noah McCurry and Colt McCurry, Jr.; and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 57 years, Leota King McCurry; four brothers, Robert McCurry, Wayne McCurry, Amil McCurry and Wayman McCurry; and sister, Thelma McCurry, “Big Sis.”
