A memorial service for Ron “Smitty” Smitheart Sr., 78 of Emory, will be held at a later date.
Mr. Smitheart died on July 25, 2022, at Christus Mother Frances in Sulphur Springs. He was born on December 12, 1943, in Lufkin, to Ocie Lee and Bobbie Jean Sowell Smithhart. He married Glenda Faye Sikes on June 23, 1970, in Jefferson. He worked as a police officer for Plano for 35 years and McKinney for two years. He attended the FBI academy in 1975 and was a member of the Free Masons in Yantis. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and a member of the Emory United Methodist Church.
Mr. Smitheart is survived by his wife, Glenda; daughter, Tracy Lynn Smitheart; son, Ron Smitheart Jr. and wife Kristen; grandchildren, Mariza Lynn Smitheart, Oleona Deann Williams-Smitheart, Ronald Caleb Smitheart, Lily Claire Smitheart and Jacob Luke Smitheart.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Mona Jean Smitheart Lovett.
Arrangements are under the direction of Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
