Paggy Gaines

1949 – 2021

A funeral service for Paggy Gaines, 71, of Emory, was held on November 17, at First Baptist Church of Emory.

Mrs. Gaines died November 12, 2021 at her residence surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on November 16, 1949, to Cecil and Martha Douglas in Brownsville.

She married Edward Ray Gaines who survives. She received her Master of Library Science and her Master’s degree in Business Education from Texas Tech University. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Howard Payne University. She worked over 30 years in education as an English teacher, college level instructor of business education, and retired as a librarian for Midland Independent School District at Midland Lee High School. She attended First Baptist Church of Emory for many years.

She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She loved being with her family and friends, and watching and playing with her grandchildren. She greatly enjoyed working in the garden, spending time outside in nature, playing with her dogs, working jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She also loved watching NFL and college football, as well as old westerns with her husband. She could always make people around her smile and laugh, could talk with anyone about anything for hours. She always helped others by putting them before herself, brought joy to everyone around her and was always willing to help no matter what.

Mrs. Gaines is also survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Sean and Tina Gaines, Christopher and Lauren Jacobson of Plano, and Matthew Noble of Conroe; brother, Douglas Button of Birmingham Alabama; grandchildren, Hannah Grace Jacobson, Spencer, Shyann, Douglas, Hunter, Chris, Colleton, Andrew and Lukas Gaines of Emory; and a host of loving relatives and friends.
