Funeral services for Mattie Sue Free, 81, of Magnolia, were held on September 13, at Magnolia Funeral Home. Interment followed at Plantersville Cemetery in Plantersville.
Mrs. Free died on September 9, 2024. She was born on August 19, 1943, in Point, to Edward Carlyle and Elsie Lee Smith Hooten. She went to school and graduated in Magnolia where she was the homecoming queen. She married her high school sweetheart, Leon Free, and was married for 64 years.
She loved spending time with her family, going on her girls’ trips with her sisters and her nieces, as well as riding horses. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by sons, Jamie Free and wife Cindy and Billy Free and wife Courtney; daughter, Patricia Baldwin and husband Jeffrey; grandchildren, James David Free, Savannah Smith and husband Matt, Kristy Theis and husband Alvin, Casey Free, Cameron Free and wife Vanessa, Caleb Free, Kaylee Baldwin and Abigail Baldwin; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Catherine Smith of Point, J.C. Hooten, Chloe House, James Hooten and wife Carolyn, and Linda Gray.
