Funeral services for Joyce Lynn Buckholt, 87, of Emory, were held on March 27, at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel. Bro. Montie Parker and Bro. Kenneth Ishmael officiated. Interment followed at Rockdale Cemetery. Pallbearers were Casey McMerrell, Ryan Stracener, Caleb Melton, Steve Clark, Brad Chastain and Charlie Petit. Rowdy Stracener served as honorary pallbearer.
Mrs. Buckholt died on March 23, 2022, at Hunt Regional Hospital in Greenville. She was born on August 25, 1934, in Sulphur Springs, to Jessie and Mamie (Spencer) Melton. She married Bennie Buckholt in Dallas on January 1, 1965. She worked as an office administrator and caregiver for several local residents, but her primary role was that of wife and mother. She will always be remembered for her beautiful flower beds and yard. She loved to collect birds and spend time with her family and friends. She will also be missed by her little dog, Angel. She was of the Assembly of God Faith.
Mrs. Buckholt is survived by her daughter-in-law, Deb McMerrell; grandchildren, Haylea Stracener and husband Ryan, and Casey McMerrell; great-grandchildren, Shaylee and Rowdy Stracener, and Madison and Jadyn McMerrell; nephews, Randy Melton and wife Theresa, Phillip Bolton and wife Cindy; nieces, Donna Moore and husband Mike, Prissy Clark and husband Steve; great-nephews, Caleb Melton and Brandon Moore; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Paul McMerrell; grandson, Lucas McMerrell; and three siblings, Jimmy Melton, Sue Fuller and Jessie Bolton.
