Funeral services for J.D. Richards, 84, of Point, were held on February 19 at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel in Emory. Interment was in Smyrna Cemetery, Emory.
Mr. Richards died on February 12, 2022, in Emory, after a courageous battle against cancer and kidney failure. He was born on November 27, 1937, in Okemah, Okla., to Thomas H. Richards and Vinita Richards.
Mr. Richards graduated from Fairfax High School in Oklahoma in 1956. Immediately after high school, he joined the US Navy. Later he joined the reserves for a two-year period. He married Linda Kay Stephens, on June 9, 1962. They had two children.
He was a hard worker and had a very strong work ethic. He worked for Collins Radio for many years and traveled all over the world. He started his own garage in Garland. He loved to help others so he worked on cars for family and friends.
He went to work in the oil fields with his father doing drilling and completion and some consulting. After retiring, he did repairs and remodels on homes.
He loved exploring buried treasures.with his metal detectors, fishing, gardening and spending time with friends, Oren and Linda Northcutt and Joe and Carla Fisher. He enjoyed sitting on his back patio and visiting with his daughter-in-law, Lorretta Richards.
Mr. Richards is survived by his sister, Linda Welch of Colorado; daughter, Lisa Richards Chapman of Richardson; son, Eric Richards of Emory; granddaughters, Amber Chapman of Richardson, and Christian Page of Emory; two great-grandchildren, Brenleigh and Paisley Hines of Emory; and many; nieces; and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; and parents.
