A memorial service for Coby Cureton Cathey, 57, formerly of Emory, was held on January 2, at the church of Christ in Emory.
Mr. Cathey died on December 20, 2021. He was born on October 17, 1965. He was the son of Emery and Ann Zene Cathey of Emory.
He attended Rains ISD, Harding University and Texas A&M Commerce, receiving his B.S. and MEd. He taught science subjects in several Texas schools before becoming an assistant principal in Garland and Carrolton-Farmers Branch. He later became an elementary principal at CFB.
He resigned public schools to form Resolute Academy as owner and president. He helped hundreds of people achieve their high school diploma with many of them going on to higher education. His son, Cartwright, will assume ownership of Resolute and continue his dad’s goal.
Mr. Cathey is survived by his parents; son, Coby Cartwright Cathey; daughter, Eliza Claire Cathey; sister, Angela Smith and husband Gerry; niece, Madeline Smith; and nephew, Daniel Smith.
