A memorial service for Carl E. Sparks, 91, of Minneola, Kansas, will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at the CrossWalk Christian Church in Minneola. Brad Kefauver will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Appleton Township Cemetery, Minneola, Kansas.
Mr. Sparks died on October 9, 2022, at Minneola Long Term Care. He was born on November 29, 1930, in Rains County, to William and Rosa Lundsford Sparks.
He was a lifetime Minneola, Kansas area resident, spending most of his life out on the farm before moving to town in 2015. He served four years in the United States Air Force and married Marjorie Lorene Thompson on December 26, 1951. He was a member of the Minneola United Methodist Church, and past president and board member of the Minneola Co-op. He enjoyed farming, welding, tending to his livestock, his “Friday night supper gang” and family time.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Nancy Groth and husband Craig, of Satana, Kansas; sons, David Sparks of Lawrence, Kansas and Alan Sparks and wife Alison of Englewood, Colorado; nieces, Michelle Simpson and husband Doug, of Moore, Oklahoma and Richelle Naiman, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren and one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jeri Ann Sparks, four brothers, Charley, Fred, Marion and Elmer Sparks, four sisters, Pollyann, Rastus, Thelma and Velma.
