Funeral services for Acie “Sonny” Hunter, 85, of Emory, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend W.R. Byrd will officiate.
Interment will follow at Hopewell Cemetery in Emory. Pallbearers will be Marquise Champion, Wallace Jackson Jr., Otae Estes, Wayne Lewis, Christopher Anderson and Joshua Williams. Honorary Pallbearers will be Roy Tell, Otha Jackson Jr., Jo Mack Porter and Tim Jackson.
Mr. Hunter died on April 21, 2021, at his home in Emory. He was born on July 14, 1935, to Edward and Helen Stephens in Elmo. He married Sherry Ann Jackson on July 17, 1999, in Emory. He was a member of Prairie Grove Baptist Church, the Lions Club and a member of Emory Alcoholic Anonymous for 25 years.
Mr. Hunter is survived by his wife; daughters, Margaret Taylor and husband Lesley, Helen Bailey and husband Jeff, Lovie Coney, Charlotte Steenson and husband Steve; stepson, Roy Tell and wife Pam; stepdaughters, Wendy Rodriguez and Shalanda Bensinger and husband Antoine; brothers, Charles Hunter, Travis Hunter and Fred Hunter; sisters, Margie Frazier, Jannie Mae Stephens and husband Roy, Ruthie Jackson and Luverta Mae Hunter; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Jewel Lewis and Thressa Hunter; sons, Edwin Robinson and Acie Jr. Tell; and grandson, Tavares Tell.
