James Douglas Massengale

1949 – 2022

Graveside services for James Douglas Massengale, 73, of Alba, were held at the Breckenridge Cemetery on February 16. 

Mr. Massengale died at his residence on February 13, 2022. He was born in Lubbock, on February 3, 1949, to James and Carrie Massengale. While growing up in Idalou, James had a horse he adored named Miss Idalou. He moved with his family to Pleasant Grove prior to attending high school. Upon graduation from W.W. Samuel High School, he went to work at General Motors SPO. He retired from GM in October 1999, after 30 years of service. He was very involved in the union at work, devoting his time to ensure equality of and for his fellow employees. He was a forklift driver and committeeman during his time with GM. He had several hobbies throughout his life, including collecting baseball cards and coins, boating, fishing and watching the Texas Rangers.

Mr. Massengale was a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge #382 in Yantis. He was also a member of the United Auto Workers for over thirty years.

He was a true gentleman and a generous, loving and caring person. He considered his close friends as family members and treated them as such. 

Mr. Massengale is survived by his wife, Susanne Massengale of Alba; sons, Rodney Massengale and Keith Massengale and wife Alia of all of Vancouver, Wash., and Jason Carlock and wife Jess of Rochester Hills, Mich.; sister, Connie Schlabs and husband Walter of Scotland, Tex.; grandsons, Dylan and Tyson Massengale, both of Vancouver, Wash.; along with numerous nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial donations in his name can be made to the Shriners Hospital and can be left at the Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home office.
