Larry O’Neal Slatter

1943 – 2026

A memorial service for Larry O’Neal Slatter, 82, will be held on Saturday, October 31, at 11:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church Sulphur Springs, 116 Oak Ave, Sulphur Springs, Texas 75482.

Mr. Slatter died on October 26, 2026, in Sulphur Springs. He was born on December 19, 1943, in Emory, to William Slatter and Grace Potts Slatter.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in education and went on to serve as a teacher for 60 years. He was also a coach, bringing that same spirit of leadership and support to those around him. He will be remembered as a patriarch, a legend, and a mentor whose life touched many through his work, his music, and his devotion to family.

Music was one of his great joys. He loved music, sang in the gospel group “The Gastons,” and played the guitar.

He married Judi Gustafson on February 12, 1972, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. He was deeply proud to have her as his wife of 52 years, and their marriage was a treasured part of his life. Among his proudest accomplishments were his daughter and his grandchildren. They brought him great happiness and pride.

Mr. Slatter is survived by his daughter, Shannon Millard and husband Bruce; grandchildren, Daylan Millard and Reid Burns; great-grandson, Jadx Cummings; sister, Sandy Ward and husband Greg; and nephew, Mike Hutchins.

He was preceded in death by his wife; and his parents.

A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at First Baptist Church Sulphur Springs.
