Mr. Mayberry died on April 2, 2020, at the age of 100. He was born March 1, 1920, in Quitman to Tim and Menzie (Chambers) Mayberry. He was the youngest of nine siblings. The family moved to the Richland community in Point. In 1948, he married the love of his life, Modis Turner, and they were blessed with six children.
Mr. Mayberry served honorably in the United States Army from 1942-1946 in World War II. He worked many years for Contel Telephone Company and retired in 1982. While working full time and after retirement, he had several self-employment ventures. He had a strong work ethic and worked several jobs to care for his family.
He was a member and deacon at the Richland Baptist Church and served, along with his wife, as administrator of the Benton Hill Cemetery in the Richland community. He also served as the unofficial historian for the Richland community.
Mr. Mayberry is survived by all six of his children, Lois Lane, Hella Mayberry, Horace Mayberry and wife Dorothy, Norris Mayberry and wife Sandra, Janice Dunbar and husband Martin, and Joe Mayberry; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and all of his siblings.
A graveside service was held on April 10 at Benton Hill.
