Merle Edwin Hutchings

1941 – 2025

A memorial service for Merle Edwin Hutchings, 83, will be held at a later date at H & H Farms nursery in Emory.

Mr. Hutchings died on February 21, 2025, surrounded by his family at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. He was born on March 9, 1941, to Joe Bailey Hutchings and Wylie Elizabeth Barnes. 

Mr. Hutchings was a retired paramedic with the Dallas Fire Department and was one of the first paramedics in the department. His involvement in the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) through the Fill the Boot campaign showcased his dedication to charitable causes.

He loved the outdoors and cherished fishing trips in Canada and hunting excursions in Colorado. He was an Army veteran.

He is survived by his sister, Linda Moore; brother, Jerry Hutchings; nephews and nieces, James Smith, Donald Hutchings, Sydney Hutchings, Clarence “Tinker” Moore, Annette Hardey and Tracy Butler; and numerous other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Joe Hutchings, Marilee Hudman, Tommy Hutchings, Donald Hutchings, Alan Hutchings and Steve Hutchings.
