Charles Roy “Chuck” Carpenter, 89, of Point, died on December 2, 2024 in Fairview. He was born on December 26, 1934, in Nunda, New York, and was raised by Oliver Ballard and Hazel (Burdick) Carpenter.
The family moved around and lived in Perry and Byersville, N.Y. He graduated from Dansville Central High School in 1952.
Mr. Carpenter married Sue Grange on January 31, 1953, in Dansville, N.Y. and they divorced in Feb 1975. Seven of eight of their children reached adulthood. His second marriage was to Phyllis Faegre on May 23, 1975, which also ended in divorce. They had one son, Brian. His last marriage was on April 7, 1996, to Margie Dodson. She died on March 13, 2021.
Mr. Carpenter started his working career in the Sylvania Electronics plant in Batavia, N.Y. His growing family moved to the town of Sparta and he worked in several out-of-town businesses, including Rittenhouse in Honeoye Falls, N.Y. and lastly for the Xerox Corporation in Rochester, N.Y. He transferred to Carrollton in 1974 when Xerox opened a branch there. He continued to do at-home jobs, usually involving quality control, throughout his retirement years.
Mr. Carpenter’s biggest passion was his lifetime involvement with ham radio, starting with K2OFN while in New York and W5USJ in Texas. While living in New York he also enjoyed fishing and archery.
He was very interested and supportive of DNA testing, which led to the discovery that Oliver Ballard Carpenter was not his biological father and that he descends from the Clan of Carruthers from Dumfriesshire, Scotland.
Mr. Carpenter is survived by his half-brother, Phil Carpenter of West Bloomfield, N.Y.; children, Cathy Cesarz of Wimaumau, Fla., Dana (Marilyn) Carpenter of Camano Island, Wash., David (Connie) Carpenter of South Park, Pa., Dianne Carpenter of Dallas, Jean (Zack) Thomas of Rowlett, and Brian (Rachel) Carpenter of Frisco; 14 grandchildren, Lydia and Alex Cesarz, Jacob and Erika Carpenter, Chris, Bill and Kevin Carpenter, Sean Thomas, Joshua Carpenter, Brandi, Ashley and Megan Farr, and Carter and Madison Carpenter; and 16 great-grandchildren, Odie, Kylie, Addison, Cayden, Brayden, Hannah, Blake, Charlea, Jett, Autumn, Aubree, Auzlyn, Brynlee, Jazmin, Lily and Violet.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two half-brothers, James (1972) and William (2005), children, Charles Jr (1953), Betty Sue Farr (2016) and Jeffrey Carpenter (2019); grandson, Seth Thomas (2004); and a son-in-law, Andrew Cesarz (2022).
Per his request, there will be no funeral services. Cremation services are handled by Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home in Emory.
