A memorial service for Ann Zene Cathey, 86, will be held on October 12, at 2:00 p.m., at Emory Church of Christ. A private family burial will follow at Quitman Cemetery.
Mrs. Cathey died on September 26, 2024. She was born on November 12, 1937, in Canton, to J.C. and El Freda (Cartwright) Anderson. She was a graduate of East Texas State University in Commerce earning a Master of Education degree. She married Emery Cathey on June 3, 1960. They were married for more than 64 years.
Mrs. Cathey was a dedicated and accomplished teacher for 30 years. She began her career teaching business subjects in Crandall and continued in Quinlan at Boles Home before moving to Rains County. There, she taught first grade for eleven years before moving to Junior High English.
As a long-time member of the Emory Church of Christ, she taught various children’s Bible classes and the ladies’ Bible class. She loved all pets, especially her dogs. She delighted in serving others. No one ever left her home still hungry. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and an amazing grandmother.
She is survived by her husband Emery of Allen; daughter, Angela Smith and husband, Gerry of Richardson; grandchildren, Cartwright Cathey, Claire Cathey, Madeline Smith, and Daniel Smith and wife, Kyra; brother, Johnny Anderson and wife Becke; and numerous other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Coby Cathey; and her parents.
A visitation will be held at 12:45 p.m., prior to the service.
